Cheap Yamaha CG101A Classical Guitar, Natural

I needed a decent guitar as I was starting to take my classical lessons seriously. While I was looking to buy a $300 Takamine, a friend offered to swap her rarely used Yamaha CG101A with my mini-classical and a little cash. The mini was a well-built (solid top and sides) no-brand guitar, but it was too small for serious playing.

After two months playing the CG101A everyday, I'm quite happy with it. It's very easy to play and the particular one I have has no intonation or tone issues. With the correct approach, it can sound beautifully. I've never played an expensive classical, but when my teacher plays my CG101A, he sounds pretty much like when he plays his expensive Spanish guitar. I can make it sound beautifully myself with my limited skills (and poorly prepared fingernails).

I didn't pay full price, so I could not really tell if buying a new one would be worth it, but it's a really good beginner's guitar. If you are looking for something that will last longer and improve with age, they say you should get one with a solid top, but that will set you back several hundred dollars. If you just want to play , I believe this guitar will let you play beautiful music for at least five years and maybe even more.

As for construction quality and aesthetics--although it's clean, it's not perfect (minor bumps, uneven finish). However, I have no major concerns about the build quality as it does not affect playability or tone. I should say that the top finish is a little too bright/unnatural for me.Get more detail about Yamaha CG101A Classical Guitar, Natural.
