This is an exceptional guitar for the price. I have been playing for nearly 15 years, and own several guitars. After some research, I purchased this guitar for a friend for his birthday, to set him on the path. I have read plenty of info on Agile's, but I have never seen one in person. The overwhelming positive feedback on every guitar forum I have visited puts the Agiles on a pedestal, so I admit it was mostly out of curiosity that I went for it. All I can say is, it lives up to the hype.
I received it intending to set it up and dial it in for him, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it needed no set up at all, just a quick tune and it was ready to go. Brand loyalty though, I had to re-string it with DR 9's. I plugged it in to my Peavey Classic 30, and about an hour later I was convinced that I should have spent a couple hundred more than I did.
As Les Paul copies go, there a plenty out there to choose from. But I don't think you'll be able to match the quality of this guitar to anything in it's price range. I have a '94 Gibson LP Classic Copper, and the Agile easily ranks along with it for quality and sound, and the Black with gold construction looks great on a stand in front of my fireplace. Needless to say, my friend thought I paid much more for it than I did, and I almost wanted to keep it a secret :-) Now I understand why Agile has such a reputation.
Seriously, if you are looking for a first guitar, or a backup. You really can't go wrong with this one.
